I love reading people's weekly updates on a Friday, but being completely honest, I don't think that's going to be possible around these parts. On Fridays, I try and pull myself together enough to clean my house and then I crash into the heaviest slumber of the week. There were texts sent to me after 9:30pm yesterday, and friends, I was not awake to receive them.
But Saturdays are my Sabbath and the one day a week where I move through life languorously, taking my time to read and pray and nap. I feel much more refreshed and capable of producing a spry recap of the week on this day than on Friday, so without further pre-amble, here it is.
Week in Review
Saying 'this week was a doozy' feels cheesy, but apt, so I'm going to say it anyway. This week was a doozy. My hot water cylinder was leaking and had to be replaced. Thankfully my landlords were very onto it, but it did require several hours of cleanup on Tuesday. It's also testing season at school, and I have found the sheer volume of tests required for each student to be overwhelming. Thankfully, my mentor has been able to help with some of these, and I think I'm on track to wrap up what I need to by the end of the term. But with the hot water cylinder, an abnormally structured week and the overwhelm of end-of-term admin, I will admit that I haven't been coping too well (see 'too many snacks' below). I've been less patient than I would like to be and have found myself needing to apologise to S for my lack of grace. I feel stuck in an impossible cycle, where I need more time to do the things I need to do, but taking that extra time is cutting into my sleep and rest time, and as a result I'm more tired than ever but still needing to deal with all the things I need to do. How does one escape this? I don't know, but I'm grateful it's Saturday and looking forward to the respite this day always brings.
Currently...
Reading: I'm Nobody, Who Are You? by Emily Dickinson and Tiny, Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed, both of which I've loved.
Watching: Parks and Recreation. I'm also excited to watch Rye Lane this evening.
Eating: Nachos, curry from Paradise, too many snacks.
Listening: To interviews with Andy Crouch, including one on the Device & Virtue podcast - as always, Andy and his insights are a delight.
Looking forward to: Painting my nails (look at that pink!) while reading this afternoon.
