About

Hey Friend,

I'm Jovita - a twenty-six-year-old teacher living in Auckland, New Zealand. However you stumbled across this little place - welcome!

On this blog, you will find essays, book reviews and little bits of my life as I navigate it with all the grace I can muster.

A little bit about me:

  • I am a Christian and faith has been the central story of my life for as long as I can remember. I love the beauty and mystery of following Jesus.
  • I am currently a beginning primary school teacher after pivoting from roles in Media & Communications. I teach a class of 24 Year 4 students, a weighty task that by turn fills me with despair and delight. (Mostly delight!)
  • You will rarely find me without a book in hand or at least within arms' reach. I will read (almost) anything and love to share what I'm reading on this space.
  • I was born in Malaysia, but have lived in New Zealand since I was five years old, slowly making my way from the bottom of the country (Invercargill) to somewhere close to the top (Auckland).
This blog is called First Light because that is when I am usually writing: at my dining table, in the cold and dark, watching for that first light to emerge.

Please stick around for as long as you'd like and I'd love to hear from you if you'd ever like to get in touch!
